Does this sound normal?
I stopped at the local muffler shop the other day to get a quote on running exhaust on the ol money pit. I want to know if this sounds reasonable: 2.5" pipe just over the rear axle then dumped and a balance tube. I have the collecters and mufflers already. The guy quoted me $160.00. I feel this maybe a little high. Maybe not, that's why I'm asking the experts.

Re: Does this sound normal?
That's exactly what I paid for mine, with out 'H' pipe.
Over ten years ago! Sounds pretty reasonable to me but maybe you should get some more bids anyway. .

Re: Does this sound normal?
Sounds reasonable to me too. I got quotes of up to #350.00 with non-performance mufflers!

Re: Does this sound normal?
I paid 100 bucks just to have them hook my manifolds to an existing exhaust system. And that was the best deal I was able to find in town. This woulda been in 05 or 06

Re: Does this sound normal?
I'd say that's real cheap. I know we pay a bit more in Canada but a full dual exhaust (including performance mufflers) would run somewhere around a grand or more.

Re: Does this sound normal?
I paid $200 and furnished 40s flows, from headers to a tucked exit behind the bedside behind the back tires. I would jump on $160.

Re: Does this sound normal?
i got a quote a couple years back on my 72 and was told "$400, and we can't do an x-pipe cause it won't fit and your truck is too low." needless to say i walked. and my 72 really isn't that low to the ground. i can crawl under without having to jack the truck, but jacking it gives me just a lil more clearance. i'm with the others, do it.

Re: Does this sound normal?
20 years ago I paid $104 for a full dual setup at a local shop. This was not aluminized back then. Last year I had 1 muffler only replaced and cost me $148. Times have changed. Prices have gone up but I have trouble accepting an exhaust system should cost what they do today.

Well,I've gotten really bad with the corny stuff since my girlfriend (and her whole family) loves it. Like I needed encouragement. She's a real punster herself. I swear we could make people noxious

Re: Does this sound normal?
man, I must be lucky!!
I have a local shop that I have been going to for the past 10 years and his rates are great in my book. The last time I went, I had him fab me up a new 2.5" Y pipe from the headers back, then to a dual chamber flowmaster and over the axle with a turn down. I think he charged my $80, and I bought the flo on ebay for $30...... |
