major engine overhaul time.
im looking to get a full roller setup, and aluminum heads for a gen 1 350, what would everyone recommend? i am a diesel tech in training, and im not an expert on these engines. right now, its a slightly cammed engine with 202 heads and headers. im looking for more power. im also looking to get some higher compression pistons and new conn rods, maybe aluminum, need some advice. money is an object, so nothing real crazy. i am looking for roller setup first before the heads. heads are expensive!

Re: major engine overhaul time.
He he. There's a few on this board that would recommend putting in a diesel!
Not too up on your upgrades but I'm sure one of our gurus will chime in. Have fun with your new engine build! .

Re: major engine overhaul time.
Find a 1996 + 350. (May be better casting #'s than others).
That'll be a good starting point. (Roller/vortec heads).

Then I'd get a drop-in 383 "kit", have a competent machine shop go through the stock vortec heads, drop it in place of your current 350, and vroom vroom. I believe the only difference is some of those 96+ vortecs came without a provision for a mechanical fuel pump. I also believe a competent machine shop can fix the non-mechanical fuel pump issue for you too. I wish I started with a roller block when I built my 383.

Re: major engine overhaul time.
350+hp on a budget. Sounds like it's time for an ls swap. Cammed up 5.3 would probably be cheaper than a retrofit roller valvetrain and aluminum heads alone. That's what I would do. I put a 5.3 in my truck and am currently building a sbc for my classic boat only beause it has a ton of cool old speed equipment that just won't bolt on an ls engine. Almost $1000 for my cam/valvetrain without any headwork or machining. I'm pretty sure I have less than that in my ls engine, harness, computer and tune....

Re: major engine overhaul time.
ive been reading a bit, seems like the ls block i just sold could be handy right about now, what i want is 4 bolt main, performer rpm heads(560 each!), performer rpm air gap intake, roller valve train with 292 roller cam, hyper-eutectic pistons, i beam rods, maybe stroked, big headers, 2.5 inch pipes, 700cfm carb? gear timing set, high performance bearings, what else do i need?
