Steering column help!
I'm trying to get to the shifter lever and housing to see why it wobbles. I've removed the steering wheel and turn signal mechanism, but how do I remove the turn signal housing and get to the shifter housing? Does this metal plate in the center pull off, or is it a fixed part of the steering column?

it should pull off I would say theres just 30 years or so of rust dust and debris in there making it tight. Im not totally sure I havent taken the chevy apart. but the other truck I did and it had 2 bolts in it holding it down it looks like you got all the bolts so it should just slide off now

Yeah, I'm embarrassed to say it just pulled off. Initially it looked like it was attached. Fixed my wobbly shift lever housing by compressing it internally with vice grips to make it fit over the shifter tube more snugly. Not high tech, but it will work until I can get a new column.
