electrical question
Got a 72 with external regulator. Installed new battery, alternator and regulator. System charges fine, but let the truck sit for a while it will not turn over.

How long, hot or cold? When it will not turn over is the battery still charged? Does it click or nothing? Have you had the charging system tested? You need to give us more to go on.

After turning off truck and coming back about 30 mins it will only click. The charging system with running and using a fluke is charging as required. Had the alternator tested and its fine. While truck is running if you remove the negative battery cable the truck still runs but lopes. Remove the positive battery cable and the truck runs fine.

Sounds like the batery is bad or something is draining on it. We still need more info. Does it start if you turn it off & start it right away? Does it start with jumper cables or bat. charger?

i'd remove both battery cables clean up all 4 ends and where they connect to also to clean shiny metal on metal contact
then see if there is a problem

Make sure the battery is charged up. Then disconnect the neg. cable. Check the battery later to see if it is still fully charged up. If it is not then the battery is bad. Or fully charge it and take it to your auto store and have them do a load test on it. Also if you see a little spark when you connect the neg. cable I think you have a current draw. Make sure ever thing is turned off.
