Headers for my 350.

I'am curious so im asking some of you 4 wheel drive fellas bout a few things.

I'am wanting to get a set of exhaust headers preferably hooker headers or hedman headers.

but now for the specs, i have a 350 turbo tranny and eventually will be getting a 4 speed. I have a 350 small block, the truck has a 4 inch lift so theres a little clearence but my main concern is id like to get a real loud set of headers, so when i get the exhaust system i want it'll be loud but have a god tone.

If you guys have any suggestions post back or pm me thanks!

Hunter

Re: Headers for my 350.

I have Hedman Street Hedders and 40 series Flowmaster 2 chamber mufflers. 3" exhaust dumps out in front of rear tires on my '72 GMC with a SBC 350. Very, very, loud... aftrer this install I now need to get a louder stereo system for cruising on the highway.

Re: Headers for my 350.

Ya, it's not really the full length headers making it loud..as you know running any engine with open headers is LOUD REALLLLL Loud!

Flowmaster's 40s are two chamber and are perrty loud all around..idel and WOT. I ran them for years and I like the sound they make and it does sound good to me..things like drive thru TacoBell or whatever, you have to shut your rig off to hear the speaker. Or pulling in somewere hella late...yer gonna wake um all up..no sneeky sneek hahaha

Now I run Flowmaster 50s three chamber with my 454 and it's quite at idel and moderate during clam exceleration yet Loud at WOT or quick shift driving.

Re: Headers for my 350.

How much do you want to spend? All headers can be loud. Do you want them to be loud ALL the time? Headers and Purple Hornies from Jegs. Do you want to SHOCK people? Headers and Hush Thrush with QTP electric exhaust cut outs. Flip a switch and go from quiet to deaf or anywhere in between

Re: Headers for my 350.

Burt - ya there design are like rectangular or square mufflers but they have a very differant sound compared to other brands like magnaflow, er flowmaster, er borla the big ones. Spintech they make a very wide variety of mufflers for race applications or whatever really. ive looked into them and there not cheap around 80 er so per muffler! But they sound extremely well. im just hoping that if i get a set of flowmasters they sound decent with the cam i have, ive got just a ol edelbrock performer cam has a smooth idle, but when cold or just started has a little lump to it haha!

Re: Headers for my 350.

1malo68 - mainly looking into headers that are tough and will last burt4x4 has me convinced that the headman elite series are what i'am wanting, and for the price there no too bad around 500 er so for a set. Another question i have is about h pipes or x pipes do they make a vehicle louder or change the tone or power at all which is a better descision. THanks fellas preciate it!

Re: Headers for my 350.

Not a lot of headers will work with a 4-speed 4x4 chev. I have the hedman elites that clear the clutch linkage with room to spare. They are beefy and the finish still looks good after a year and change on the truck. H-pipe quiets it out and helps with the torque.

Re: Headers for my 350.

Dual 2.5" flowmaster 50 series with h-pipe. It exits out both sides behind the rear wheels in the stock location. No tips for this truck.
