What are the 67-72s called?

Seems like a lot of the chevy truck generations have names everybody knows them as.

47-55 are "Advanced Design" or "Thriftmasters"
55-59 are "Task Force" or "Tri-Fives"

Both of those came from the factory with those names; after that, the names are just put on the generations by the owners

73-87s are "Square Bodies"
88-98s are "GMT400"

...but where does that put 60-66 or 67-72s? I once heard the 67-72s called the"Glamor Era" trucks, so I guess that's what I call them, but does anybody have a more accurate or lasting name for the generation?

The best of the best

Or: Style Generation

How about: Cool.

I don't know, but that's a great question.

Re: What are the 67-72s called?

In '67 they were introduced as 'The new Breed" and that's what we have called them over the years. That is how Seth Doulton, founder of Golden State Pickup Parts and originator of the 67-72 GM truck restoration aftermarket, refers to them in all the articles he wrote. I have heard other names coined in more recent years but really feel New breed fits them perfectly.

Tim you need to write an article on this topic. Seems to be pretty popular lately.

Good point to which I agree...

From my limited knowledge the 67-72 Chevy Trucks area was the time period that a truck could be optioned out with car like features and options. A big motor, AC, Bucket Seats, Guage Package, 400 Turbo Automatic, AM-FM radio and one could even get an 8 track player from the dealer. And the list goes on.
As been said previously, trucks were used as work trucks and never considered a vehicle of choice to go to town but the 67-72 Chevy and GMC trucks changed the mind set of Americans. Interior options with brite trim and colors to match ones fancy were now an option to buyers. This was anew dawn for truck lovers. And the rest is history...

Re: What are the 67-72s called?

I was looking at a thread on here of a kid whos just a few years younger than me and he had a '67 brochure that had all the options and everything you could spec your truck out to and the 1967 line was called "Action Line" trucks.

Thats what that 1967 brochure called it but it could be that all '67-'72 trucks were called "Action Line" trucks.

Re: What are the 67-72s called?

"Action Line", I like that, has an evocative ring to it.

Re: What are the 67-72s called?

I like using sport truck (Or CST) series truck myself. It's the first use of the big block for GM, the CST option carried several years and they were marketed extensively to people for recreation use. I can't think of a better series name for our trucks.
