headers w/4-6 drop
Hey guys!
Who all here is running longtube headers on a 4/6 drop or more? what brand are you running? How much clearance do you have? My truck has LT's on it right now and the truck is about to be lowered, but im worried about the clearance on the headers. thanks in advance. |

Re: headers w/4-6 drop
I am also interested in knowing this. I have the Hooker long tubes on my '71 GMC and currently the headers hang below the frame rail. I have a 1/3" drop in it now with no clearance issues but I'm wanting to go to the 4/6" drop like you.

Re: headers w/4-6 drop
Are you running a small block or big block? I've got the patriot clippsters (I think thats the name of them) with a big block, and I've got a 4/6 or 5/7 drop (cant remember which). They fit perfect and have never had an issue with them scraping or developing leaks.

Re: headers w/4-6 drop
I'm running Hedman long tubes with a 3.5/5 drop. I've scraped a couple times, but it was only on a really big speed bump and on a driveway that hadn't been finished and had too big of a drop off. The speed bump I misjudged how big it was and went over it too fast. Other than those two incidents, I've never had any other issues.
If you really want to change, I've heard alot of good about the Sanderson shorties that ECE sells. Hedman also make a nice shorty header. Here's how mine looks.

Re: headers w/4-6 drop
Fitz, how were they to install? I am in the market for some headers for my BBC but I want an easy install.

Re: headers w/4-6 drop
Thanks a ton guys, Im only running a small block, I took some measurements and the very bottom of the header collector is about 6.5"-7" off the ground right now.
The truck is going another 3" lower after I change the tires, which would put the headers 3.5"-4" off the ground. The headers are the lowest point under the truck. I know that's not much ground clearance, but it's more than my car has lol |

Re: headers w/4-6 drop
Mine went in easy. There is enough room to slip them in from the bottom and Sandersons do not use a gasket so it is easy to reach up, start the rear bolt on both sides to hold them in place then finish the install from the top.
