Pinion angle\2 piece driveline question
I'm getting ready to set the pinion angel on my coil spring 69 1\2 ton long bed. I have information that you set the pinion angle just as you would if you were working on a single piece driveline (pinion 3* above horizontal, crank\out put shaft 3* below horizontal)...does anyone know, is this true? Location of the carrier bearing doesn't come into play?

Re: Pinion angle\2 piece driveline question
I know that's right for a single shaft. You might want to mock it up, and see how it looks, and go from there. Good luck.

Re: Pinion angle\2 piece driveline question
The way it was explained to me, by a local driveline shop is thus....the front have of the shaft needs to be pretty much veiwed as an extension of the trans. The 1st U joint needs to have a 1/2 -1 degree working angle, & the last 2 joints are set up equal/opposite of each other. You wont get too much movement on a coil set (wrap up), but on a leaf spring truck, the springs wrap quite a bit, & do change the pinion angles on hard acceleration. what I have seen done on leaf setups for high perf /drag (1 pc shaft), is to set both angles 3 degrees down toward to ground. it will run smooth this way, & under full power, it will kick the pinion up around 6 degrees(still running 3 degrees on both ends). crazyL

Re: Pinion angle\2 piece driveline question
How much have you lowered the truck from factory? I have a 5/6.5" drop on my SWB, with the factory 2 piece driveshaft. I did not need to correct the pinion angle, and no shims were needed.
Moved to suspension forum.

Re: Pinion angle\2 piece driveline question
crazy longhorn is correct in that you want to set up the first u-joint to have ~1* true operating angle and the pinion centerline needs to be parallel with the centerline of drive shaft #1 and not the transmission. here are a couple more threads that address 2 piece drive lines. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=220466 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=405802
