Need some help on truck specs - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey all, been a while since I logged in here.
But I'm looking for specs (of all kinds, engine, trans ect ect...) on my
1983 Custom Deluxe, its got a straight six in it, and I'm wanting to find out
what the CI is on it. It also has a 3 speed manual, it was at one point a 3
on the tree shifter, but some one converted it into a floor shifter (which I
don't mind)

Also, the rear transfer case is making a bit of a "knocking" sound when
coasting at 5mph and under, anything above that and there's no sound.
Any ideas?

OHV Six-cylinder 250 cid. (120) @ 4000 rpm

SM318/SM326/SM330/T-89A/T-150 3 spd. (2.47-3.50:1 First Gear)

It would seem the sound is coming directly from the transfer case its self, dead
center, I lifted the rear end cause I had some one listen to the sound while I was rolling, and they said it was coming from the RR wheel, so I pulled the drum
cover and and inspected the brakes (encase a spring broke) and everything was
fine, so I spun the wheel, and the sound comes from the transfer case.

Not that I doubt your knowledge or anything, and I really don't mean to offend you, but are you sure you're talking about the transfer case and not the differential? The renderings of your truck show it as a 2wd and not a 4x4, so you wouldn't have a transfer case anyway if that were true.

Haha not sure how you can tell that its 2wd from the renders, I can make/do
anything with my cad program (say.... put a V12 in the engine bay, with a
Semi truck's transmission, sitting on 5' rims lol.)

But yeah, I did get the two mixed up, It's been a while since I've had to really
work on it (like 6 years, and only a starter needed to be replaced lol)
So in all, its the rear differential making the weird clicking/knocking sound at
low speeds.

Now that we've cleared up the issue on my end, hopefully some one can shed
some light on my situation.

Haha I knew because you're only showing 5 lug nuts

. As for your issue, I'd just pull the differential cover of and see if you see anything visibly broken. If you don't, jack the back end of the truck up and turn the wheel; watch the internals work, and see if you can hear it better with the cover off. You'll narrow it down eventually. For your engine I.D. question, best to just pull the casting numbers off the engine itself and look them up online. Not sure about the 6'ers, but on the V8's the number is on the rear passenger side of the block. Good luck!

Hey, I know it takes a long time to make cads look good (by the way the pics you posted look great and one is the wallpaper on my phone now) but would you be doing a 73 to 78 model ever? Id be really cool!

Yeah, I plan on pulling the cover off it soon, but as of now I'm broke and can't
afford picking up a new gasket, so for now I only drive it when I need to.

As for the 73-78 model, a quick rebuild on the front clip would be all that's
really needed. But it might take a little while, I'm currently modeling a
2003 Ford Ranger Edge (Ford, I know... but money's money lol)
(considering that there's quite a few different options on all those
models, which year would you be most interested in?)

If you have pics of the front clip on your truck, or anything

Hey guys, found out what the knocking was, it was the U joint on the driveline, replaced it and the sound is gone

I'm also wondering, does anyone know what kind of transmission I could mate with my engine (inline6 http://coloradok5.com/specs.shtml#1983 )
3 speed just isn't cutting it anymore, any kind of trans 4 gears or higher I'll take. Not sure if there's any out there I could use that's better than the one I have now, but I'd really like to find one

Maybe one that requires a conversion kit?
