1971 Cheyenne option?
I noticed yesterday while looking at my original SPID labels from 1971 that everyone I have with the Z84 option code has a description of "Custom Sport Truck". I had always thought it could be listed as "Cheyenne Eq" but I have almost 60 original Z84 labels and they are ALL "Custom Sport truck". Does anyone have a label from 71 that shows Z84 as "Cheyenne Equipment"?
Thanks Jeff

Re: 1971 Cheyenne option?
I think that's how they were labeled in the SPID up to 72, even though 71 and 72 were badged as the Cheyenne and not the CST like the 67-70 years were.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne option?
Jeff had a close friend with a early 71 cheyenne and it also has custom sport truck. I dont think the cheyenne labe lappears until the late year supers started making it onto the scene.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne option?
So even the cheyenne super's are labeled "custom sport truck"? I think a remember seeing some of the super's that listed it on the SPID as cheyenne super eq. or something like that.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne option?
I only found one. It is not one of my spids. It is listed as a Cheyenne super though.
In 1971, if all or almost all the spids listed CUSTOM SPORT TRUCK, How do you know if it was a CHEYENNE or CHEYENNE SUPER?????????????

Re: 1971 Cheyenne option?
I bet you are on to something there. I forgot SUPERS come out late in 1971, so GM probably listed cheyenne's as CST until the supers came out then they listed Cheyenne super like the spid in post #8.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne option?
a super would have the ye9 option if memory serves, regardless on how they described the Z84 option.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne option?
Thanks for all the input guys, I have a lot of 71's that are ye9 Cheyenne supers, no question about that. Pretty much convinced that Z84 "custom sport truck" is the common/norm for Cheyenne's in 71.
Thank you Jeff

Re: 1971 Cheyenne option?
Jeff, I got around to checking two of my 71's today and one was a Cheyenne and the other a camper special 20 series with the Z84 option. Both listed as option Custom Sport Truck. Mark

Re: 1971 Cheyenne option?
Chevy didn't make Cheyenne trucks in '71...just fender badges.LOL! and J/K!!
This was a great topic to bring up. Something I always wondered, too. I have never seen a '71 Cheyenne that didn't list the option as Custom Sport Truck. A thread like this is the best way to prove a thing like this (as close as possible to no doubt). I'm convinced.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne option?
Cheyenne Super would have the word "cloth" mentioned in the trim line while a Cheyenne would be vinyl (Unless it was a Cheyenne Super with Bucket Seats). Like "BlUE CUST CLOTH TRIM" as shown on the SPID.
