inline 6 questions

so im thinking about looking at a 67 step side chevy. its got the inline 6 with 3 on the tree and it runs and drives as is. i have not seen this truck yet i have only spoken to the person.

yeah i have an 82 swb its not running but i love the style of 67 through 72 trucks.

so what kind of hastle is it swaping a 400 sb into this ride?

and maybe doing a floor mount shifter what kind of trannys did they have?

the price of this vehicle is 2800$ or best offer

Re: inline 6 questions

It depends on how you want your ride to look, if you want it right, you have to get all the right parts to put the v8 in the right position, if you dont care about that and dont mind the valve covers almost against the firewall, then it will go straight in with little effort.

I used the flywheel and starter off the 6 on my 283 with no problems....

That's kind of hard to answer without knowing what trans the 400 had or has on it and more info about what you are looking to end up with. Too many variables.

If you want to leave the 3 speed in it just slide the 400 in and bolt it up. It will bolt right up to the 3 speed bell housing and you can use all of your current clutch stuff. I think you will have to use a 400 flywheel because they are externally balanced. If you use a Chevy 327 or 350 you can use your existing flywheel and just buy a new pilot bushing.

Re: inline 6 questions

hey there Jester, i have a 67 that had a I6 in it and i'm swapping to a 350. i'm using the v8 stands from a 67 and the 67 style motor mounts. if it's all the right parts, the stands will bolt right on in the forward position with no hole drilling required. tex firefighter has a good thread in FAQ that has good pictures of what i'm talking about, definately check it out....good luck!
