Re: is it just me...?
To me, it's not only the symmetry from side to side but having that 'bump' there just adds
one more noise that takes away from your engine being the focal point. Same as it's always bugged me to see the dash panel differ from the glove box door..same concept. BTW--Nice job on the shave and very nice engine bay! |

How hard is it to shave the firewall? Both look good to me!

Re: is it just me...?
I'm only running a 305 at the moment soo I'm not too worried about it not being the focal point lol. But yes you're definitely right.

Re: is it just me...?
That bump don't hurt anything the thing I always thought is you shave the fire wall the break booster should be shaved too the other thing that always stick out to me is when people shave their doors and leave the gas cap on theses bodies

Re: is it just me...?
Thats a "Chevy bump" (gotta have it) Like my old grandad told me about the bump on the back of the dogs head...."Boy, thats a knowledge bump....the bigger the bump, the dumber that damn dog is). The old man had a way with (few words), but its a small bump on the Chev, so my bet is its all good crazyL

Build a nice battery box and mount it to the firewall opposite the brake booster ...

Re: is it just me...?
The way I see it, if that little bump bugged me that much, then I'd have a whole bunch of other small bumps, protrusions and asymetry to worry about. After filling the blower motor hole then I'd have to extend the line on the firewall all the way out so that it better matched the driver side. Then I'd have to remove the protrusions (which are also asymetrical from one side to the other) altogether and make the whole firewall surface flat. Well, might as well make the engine clearance hump symmetrical too. In short, that one little bump would be too much extra metal work to remove.

I like symmetry also. Can you send me your hump so I can put it on the other side?

Re: is it just me...?
I like symmetry, too. However, I wear glasses and one ear is farther back than the other by a 1/4-inch. You can't look and see it, but I know.
Thanks for giving me something else to obsess about when I look at these trucks.

Re: is it just me...?
Yes, it bugs me a lil as well, if i ever do shave my firewall i want the whole thing to be smooth on both sides. I'd like to get rid of the hump in the middle as well. Something like this...I stole this from a board member, hope they don't mind. It's a beautiful example of how a shaved firewall should look.

Re: is it just me...?
I like symetry as well but I am a big fan of a little hump here and there!
