What's a good tire ?

What would be a good tire for me? I have a 85 3/4 ton suburban with the 8 lug axels. It's going to be my daily driver and won't really see any offroad action but I do love the look of the all terrains and mud tires. I am leaning more towards a set of all terrains because I think the weight of my truck and running up and down the highway at 70 mph will wear down the thicker lugs on the mud terrains, is this true? Anyway I would love to hear you guys input on which set to go with. I am looking for a 35" tire and will be running either 16" or 17" wheels and

Re: What's a good tire ?

A/T tires normally have a tighter lug pattern, and harder compound. The MT's have a wider lug spacing, and softer compound.

Here is the tires I would consider. In no specific order.

-Toyo Open Country AT
-Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac (Great snow tire)
-General Grabber AT (One of my favorite tread designs. Ride sweet, and great for snow and ice)
-Pro Comp AT Radial
-Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ
-Nitto terra Grappler

If you can live with a 33" tire Pep Boys has the Definity dakota M/T. Biggest size is a 285/75-16. Ran a set of these on a '97 RAM 2500 Cummins. They lasted the rated 40k even with the heavy truck, and worked good. Not to much noise, and although I could break them loose on wet ground I was also running 800ft-lbs through a posi.

Re: What's a good tire ?

ok so i went with the definity dakotas in the 285/75/16 they didnt have them in stock but i payed and they will be here in a few days, wanted to go with a bigger tire but 660 for a set of 33's couldnt turn that down plus now i dont have to lift my truck and can still park it in the garage. guess i will have to find a way to spend that extra cash i saved. thanks for the info guys.

Re: What's a good tire ?

Every BFG tire I've ever ran wore out really quick, too soft of compound.
