rear view mirror
What are you guys using for your window mounted rear view mirrors? I was hoping to find something chrome, but all I've been seeing is plastic and billet/ with flames.

Re: rear view mirror
The one I bought is plastic, but it's one of the later model mirrors with the map lights. When the top is off I don't have any interior lights at night. I haven't wired it up yet, though, but I tested it with a jumper and I think I'll like it.

Re: rear view mirror
the rearview mirror in my 68 rivierra was chrome. Probably the same for other gm cars of that era.

Is that window mounted? I thought they hung from the roof.

Re: rear view mirror
72 had chrome window mounted mirrors. I believe the laws have changed with regards to selling polished aluminum or chrome mirrors. IIRC you'll have to find a stock unit, and have it retrofitted with a new mirror.

Re: rear view mirror
I think I might... I'm going with a newer truck mirror as mentioned above with map lights and possibly auto dimming/compass.

Re: rear view mirror
in 72 the ones in the trucks were black on the forward facing side. This was due to new DOT regs requiring 'non glare' mirrors to be used.
There were a handfull of glue on mirrors used back before then that were bright (stainless, aluminum, rarely chrome) Make sure to look in brand X Y and Z, and GM vehicles as well. However, in reality, I would recomend just getting an aftermarket piece, usually made of plastic, and putting it on. I have one from mooneyes in my burb, I think it was locar brand? Very nice piece, nice chromed plastic, wich won't rust or tarnish, and weighs less than any metal ones. This is important due to crappy glues which will hardly hols a plastic one up, let alone a metal one. |

Re: rear view mirror
Do you have a link to this? I looked at their website and searched for mirror and couldn't find it.

Re: rear view mirror
pretty sure it was window mounted, I didn't own it long. I only remember it because of all of the cigarette residue I cleaned offf of it. I thought it was just brown on the back.

Re: rear view mirror
i just looked, they don't have it listed online. Call them for a catalog (i think it's 5 bucks) and see if they still have it. You could ask when you call, but you'll wanna see it in the book before dropping the cash anyways. It was kinda spendy, 50+ bucks if memory serves. it's been a few years though, so I may be wrong.
