Do you have faith in your truck!?!? Long hauler...

Hey guys,

I talked to Kevin King today from Year One and he invited me to do a run with him in September from Boston to Atlanta. The event will be dubbed the 1st Annual "Chowder Run" (the Year One Chowda' Run -try saying that 3 times fast) This is a throwback to the Smoky and the Bandit days. (remember? Big Enos?, let me refresh your memory...)

Bandit: Cledus, get the money.
Cledus Snow: Yeah, how 'bout the money?
Little Enos: How 'bout double or nothin'?
Cledus Snow: How 'bout forgettin' it?
Bandit: Wait a minute. What about double or nothin'?
Little Enos: You run up to Boston, and bring back some clam chowder for me and my daddy.
Carrie: You're on.
Bandit: Uh, you're on.
Big Enos: In 18 hours?
Bandit: You're still on.
Cledus Snow: WHAT? You're *crazy*! And I'm *divorced*!

Anyway, this is tenatively scheduled to happen in September, but you won't find any media about it yet. But, I am asking now because I don't want to be the only 67-72 Chevy truck(...um, Suburban) in the vast sea of typical Camaro's and Mustangs.

Let me know, so I can tell Kevin. It would be SWEET if the trucks outnumbered the cars.

And yep, my 'Burb will go ANYWHERE in the good 'ol USA. Anybody else up for the challenge???

Re: Do you have faith in your truck!?!? Long hauler...

If I was closer I'd bring my 66 Supervan, The 'burb' isn't ready far any runs yet. Not that it won't make it 'cuse the van is in great shape, its just that it'd take 4 or 5 days to get there ans another 5*9 to get home after days plus the trip down to atlanta just can't get that much time off

Post pics of it when it happens

Old Rocinante would be down for a jaunt like that anytime. I make runs like that pretty regularly with my 72 C25 pulling a 10k cargo trailer making PCS moves for the Army. Unfortunately, the Army has me in Korea at the moment. Keep the faith!

I just jump in mine and go. That's the beauty of these trucks, they just go. And when they don't you can fix them. I wish I could afford to just take off and go.

Re: Do you have faith in your truck!?!? Long hauler...

I'm interested but heres the issues' ..I run south all the time and the route that is picked is of BIG concern if they plan to make the 18 hour drive straight but what concerns me most is getting out of the Mass Conn NY area...I 95 is a POS and will wreck most any of our old trucks TRUST ME and the traffic is stupid...there are other ways like across 90 to 87

I would really want a route before I said anymore

Re: Do you have faith in your truck!?!? Long hauler...

I contract with an engineering firm out of Boston, so I am up there often. I hate I-95 too, so I typically take the Mass Pike to I-84 to I-80 then pick up 81. Depending on the time of day that you hit it, it is reasonable.

I would definitely discourage him from taking I-95 as that is a parking lot just waiting to happen.

We'll see!

Uh, didn't the bandit run from Atlanta to boston and back in 18 hours? So figuratively, you'd have to average 123mph to go up and back in 18 hours.

Yeah... this one will probably take about a week. We dont have the hat, the leather jacket or the Trans Am so we wouldnt be able to pull it off in 18 hours

actually, he was driving Big Enos's Caddy for that trip.

It sounds like alot of fun. I've always wanted to do it in my 77 Bandit trans am. But she's kinda in pieces now. lol

Lots of room for that extra fuel tank too! And maybe some sort of toilet
I can see those Burbs blocking all lanes just like the Bandit!!!

Yea,
I have faith in her but getting time off from work would be the spoiler for me! I need to get one more oil leak fixed and the truck would be ready for any trip. The timing is wrong. You know why for me. Fall Outages going on in the Nuc world!

I Googled it and it said that's 1100 miles between Boston and Atlanta. I dont feel good going much more than 25 miles in my K20.

I hope to be able to go cross country and back in my panel some day (hopefully lol)

Re: Do you have faith in your truck!?!? Long hauler...

If there was a West Coast trip I'd deff do it in a second. My blazer would go the distance easily. It's my daily driver and always working hard and hasn't broken down yet...not 'unexpectedly' at least

But that'd probaby be days worth of work in gas money so I don't know...it'd be an expensive trip lol But it'd be worth it, I love cruising around the various states.

Google says 18hrs and change from Boston to Atlanta so I'm sure the Bandit could do it in 15hrs I did Vegas to Seattle area in 14hrs. I do those types of trips as day trips for work lol Albeit that's a long drive in an old Chevy.

Oconee 10/22 til 11/20 so the web page says.

Google map= 18hrs & 18 minutes 1110 miles one way which would basicly be double for me. I'm 2 1/2 hrs north of Atlanta.
