I just picked up a 72 gmc jimmy and am wanting to clean it up, I know that my 72 blazer has the anodized aluminum grille and I ruined it using acid to try and clean it up. But the gmc looks like it is different? Stainless? thanks

its polished aluminum not chromed at least the one on my 71 is but the trim around it on the hood and fenders are chromed steel and there are a few that were painted white and I think those were painted steel

the only parts on a GMC's grill that are steel are the headlight trim and the pieces that are on the hood and fenders. the grill shell is Aluminum

easy way for you to find out- Take it off the truck and also pull the trim on the fender (it's just 3 bolts on the inside of the fender) hold the grill in one hand and the trim peice in your other if it's chrome plated steel the grill will haigh ALOT more then the trim. heres a pick of the front of mine before I changed the pass fender

the orig fender trim peice chrome flaked an the sharp edges and the grill is very light. It waighs about the same as the fender trim! that tells me its Aluminum heres after I fixed the fender

71gmcburb, everything you say is true, the grill is very light. That being said everything I know about metals tells me the grill is steel. My old 71 grill is a sheet of rust on the back side and aluminum doesn't rust, and yes a magnet will adhere to a gmc grill.
