Un even bed. Help
I need some of your guys experience here. I have a bed that doesn't sit even. The four bed mounts before the axle are flush with no spacers or anything. The bed actully sits on the frame above the axle. So far so good right? Well my back four bed mounts are about 1/2 inch from the bed. If I took all the bolts out the bed would be level but the mounts and bed would have a gap. Anybody have this problem ? Thanks in advance.
P.s this site has been very helpful in solving my other problems. Last edited by bears100th4l; 04-18-2011 at 07:37 PM. Reason: Was incomplete |

Re: Un even bed. Help
Are you sure they're the right mounts for your truck. Or better yet, are they all the same, front and rear?

Re: Un even bed. Help
I've read on other posts saying the bed should sit flush on all 8 bed mounts.

Re: Un even bed. Help
Maybe your frame is tweaked(bent).

Has the truck ever been in a wreck[not that there is anything wrong with that]? Sounds to me the rear of the frame is down if you measure the bed from crosspionts it should measure the same[square]. If it does then you should start measuring the frame to see if it is down. Jim

Re: Un even bed. Help
As far as I know it's never been wrecked. But it's possible . I'll have to do some measurements. Now I'm thinking about it. It would seem that the front mounts flush and if it was hit from behind and only bumper damage it could have pushed it down

Re: Un even bed. Help
The rear of your frame is probably sagging or bent down, it's not a major issue, it's probably from a minor accident somewhere down the line. It's actually a pretty easy fix. One of my frame rails (Driver side) was sagging a bit in the same area yours is, it literally took about 5 min. on the frame machine at work and it was back to normal.
Any collision repair shop should be able to get you fixed up pretty quick.

Re: Un even bed. Help
most collision shops have a min. charge for frame [or any type] work. It should be just a matter of a tiedown and a push up , no biggie. I would look closely at the frame and compare one side to the other and look for differences in the two rails as they should mirror each other. Jim

Re: Un even bed. Help
not unusual for a 40year old work vehicle to have a tweaked frame
make and install shims is the easy way to solve problems
