66 Barn doors to clam shell question
Hey guys my suburban has perfect barn doors but I want tailgate and lift gate.I bought some that are rust free.My question is will all suburbans accept the tailgate hinges because I can't tell where they bolt up. I see where the liftgate bolts up but not the tailgate.pics would be great. Thanks in advance.

Re: 66 Barn doors to clam shell question
On my 60 Sub with clam shell doors your can easily see in the vertical body sections where the barn door hinges would be mounted. In my sub the holes have plastic snap-in covers in the not used holes. Mine is a GMC BTW

Re: 66 Barn doors to clam shell question
seemed to me like the rear pan was different?
I have a barn door sub, and I was looking at that part too, and I could not tell, just curious, because I will keep my barn... I could probably get you a rear pan if they are different (might be $$$ though...), my local wrecking yard has a rollover liftgate sub that I just cut the front floor out of...

Re: 66 Barn doors to clam shell question
Yes you can change to the clam shell but you'll need to replace your rear valance panel where the hinges go thru to the frame................I'll add a picture for you...............All of the mounting points are there but are capped with plastic caps...............Hemmit

Re: 66 Barn doors to clam shell question
Rather than replacing the complete rear body, once you find one, you may have an easier time building the pockets to clear the hinges. Still some work involved but that obviously doesn't scare you.
