Need Help ASAP!
my parents suburban will not start, it won't even crank, it has a fully charged battery in it. i need pointers on what it might be, i've checked all the ignition, etc. type fuses and relays and they are all good. The security light does flash though, is this issue passlock 2 related?

Re: Need Help ASAP!
Need more info. Do you get anything when you turn the key? Power to everything else? Click or clicks when you turn key?
EDIT: pass lock will turn over, maybe start for a few seconds. Last edited by usmcchevy; 04-20-2011 at 10:25 PM. |

Re: Need Help ASAP!
Check your connections at the battery, where the battery cable attaches to starter and ground cable. Then make sure you have power at the stud on the starter(purple wire) when you turn the key to start. Those check out its your starter.

Re: Need Help ASAP!
What he said, if you can hear your starter click that hardly matters, it could still be locked up and not extending out.

Re: Need Help ASAP!
What have you done to confirm that the battery is charged?
Lights will work with a low battery, low enough that the engine will not turn over. Charge the battery or use a voltmeter to test the voltage.

Re: Need Help ASAP!
Shocker, could you elaborate on your problem? When did it happen? What does it do when you try to start. Will the starter turn the motor over? will the motor fire at all?

Re: Need Help ASAP!
starter does not crank as computer disables it when it goes into security mode. this was in an 01 grand am and in a friends 01 sunfire, a gm thing as far as i can see. Everything else works but no cranking. The fix involved leaving key on for 10 minutes and something else, i cannot remember what else was required, check with GM or look in owners manual for disabling the security system

Re: Need Help ASAP!
30 minute passlock learn procdure for the vehicle to start if the bcm,pcm or ign. lock cylinder are replaced.
Crank, die leave key on ten mins till security light stops flashing, repeat procedure one second time repeat procedure one third time Turn key off and crank vehicle after the lamp times out the third time VTD passwords are retransmitted and vehicle will start and run. |
