The 85 extended cab build :)

Hey all, I thought I would start a build thread on my 1985 Extended cab truck. As most of you know by now, they started off as long beds and were shipped to CVI in Texas. They were chopped, cut, welded, patched, extended, bondoed a lot, painted and seats/windows installed. The same long bed was used and is now "cut down". They were then shipped back to the dealer to be sold. About 2500 were converted this way from 1983-1987 in any style pick up available. This actual truck sold new in Arkansas. I found it in Bebe, Ark. It was sitting under a tree. I stopped and asked about it and within a few days, I was talking to the owner. We came up with a price and I started planning the trip to bring it home. I pulled it home with a 2 wheel dolley and my truck. It wasn't running because the steering column was completely torn apart. I went to a junkyard and got some skinny front tires and wheels, because it JUST BARELY FITS on the two wheel dolley. I knew this before hand, so I had no trouble bringing it home. This is going to be a slow build, so don't expect daily updates!!!!!!!!!! Right now 04-24-11 my wife is expecting our daughter next month and we have a 4 year old son. They get most of my time besides work, oh and some sleep! Here are some pics David

Re: The 85 extended cab build :)

I'm going to remove the body off the 1/2T chassis. Put this body on my 3/4T chassis and install a 454 TBI and th400. The 14 bolt FF will get disc brakes. I think the color combo will be white on top with black on the bottom, or black with grey in the middle. Not sure yet.................

These trucks are so interesting - I have never had the chance to actually see one in person unfortunately... Look forward to seeing what you end up doing to it!

Re: The 85 extended cab build :)

Not much of an update. I hauled off a truck load of scrap metal. $$$ Most of it was in the back of this truck. The dented drivers door, fender and flat hood were in the pile. The bed is loose and ready to pull. Cab only needs the mount bolts and a few things, and it's ready to pull. I will post pics when I get them off. Anyone know where I can buy some extra time? I seem to be always needing some................. Also: I don't think I will be useing the 454 TBI from the 89 Suburban . I have a 350 that will be used. The Suburban will be sold as a complete running/driving truck.

Nope,
As it says in the first post:
It was converted by a conversion company in Texas called CVI.
It was a regular cab long bed stock, before the conversion...

They are out there, and for sale; just few and far between! Here is a complete thread about them. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=365878 I've since moved and don't have my shop anymore..... I had the bed off, front cap off and body ready to pull when I took a new job 600 miles away Will be slow going from now on. David

I found the cowl hood on Craigslist when I was in Memphis. It was brand new and got it for $300.00 Don't pay $500 for one then have to pay shipping!!!!!, just search craigslist and go pick it up The original plan was to make this a C20 by swapping my other trucks frame over to this one. I have since moved 600 miles away, and sold my C20, my 14 bolt FF factory posi and my 454TBI 2500 Suburban...... So, now I will fix up this truck as a 1/2T but will not lower it. It might even be for sale one day
