woodgrain gold
I have been collecting a few nos trim pieces off ebay and came across a 71/72 nos woodgrain glove box door applaque .I could not believe it is up to $770.I have 2 in my attic that I bought years back.I think I might have to list them if it actually sales for that.

Re: woodgrain gold
lol, I have been watching this for a couple of days now, but would never pay that much for a woodgrain that doesn't match the assembly line pattern. The grain and color is correct, but I would rather pay big bucks on a good assembly line piece. Trevor

Re: woodgrain gold
If I had the one and only LS6 C10 Super Cheyenne that I was doing a frame off concourse restoration on I might justify a $700 decal BUT, I have an old pickup that is collectible to a point.......I'm sure you could find a decal that will get the job done for a fraction of the cost and even the pickiest perfectionist wouldn't notice.

Re: woodgrain gold
I too have one of these NOS in a GM paper wrapper. It looks nothing like the one on e-bay.
The problems I see with the one on e-bay *grain does not match original *has holes (mine doesn't) *GM packaging looks odd, doesn't GM usually package parts with the GM logo Paper opposite the part. *GM packaging usually has a part#, wouldn't you list that if you were trying to sell something? just my opinion, what do I know about NOS parts

Re: woodgrain gold
I have one, too. I can see paying that kind of money for a N.O.S. woodgrain instrument panel in original chrome. Maybe GM did make a newer run of these like they did the instrument panels in the non-chrome. Cuz that one doen't look like my dash and door combo.
BTW guys, these aren't a decal or sticker like the aftermarket makes. It's an aluminum panel with a bead around the edge and the woodgrain is photo etched onto it.

Re: woodgrain gold
No way that was legit. The guy with the 291 feedback score bid it up $240 in 10 minutes several days ago, then didn't bid at the last second? Got beat out by $10? Yeah right!!!!

I really don't understand why every time an item goes unusually high the conspiracy theorist come out. Is it too much for that item? Probably so! Does that mean the seller has friends trying to bump the bid? Possibly so, but there is a big difference between "nudging" a motivated buyer, and running a bid hundreds of dollars higher. Sorry guys, but I think it's been run up because someone has money and really, really wants it.

Re: woodgrain gold
Put an NOS GM 8 Track on ebay and see how high it would go...if a person is doing a high dollar frame off they would be willing to pay the high $$$ for NOS. JMHO

Re: woodgrain gold
I think if someone was playing games they'd use more tact. If it's obvious to us,it's obvious to Ebay and they don't allow that stuff. A person like that would not have such a good feedback rating. It could be some dirty pool but I think more likely it just shows how a highly desired, scarce, prime part (and a cosmetic piece at that) can go for crazy money if the right people get onto it. It only gets more so as time goes on and the good stuff gets used on prime restorations. I was just at one of the premier automotive swap meets in the country and the buzz there was,"Where's the N.O.S?". They don't make the stuff any more and as time passes it gets rarer and more expensive because eventually it gets used and is rolling around on a high end truck.

Re: woodgrain gold
Didn't a set of hub caps go for over $700 a while back?

Also, special-K very good point, and you must now factor in how the internet has played a role in the "high dollar pieces". It use to be that you had a very limited number of potential buyers for this stuff, now you have ebay and can reach THOUSANDS of potential buyers and that weighs heavily on the "going rate". JMO |

Re: woodgrain gold
I do that too, but come on, who does it 5 days before the auction ends? I still think it's fishy, but maybe I've just been burned one too many times on ebay.
