Conversion tie rod sleeve for DISC brakes on a 67-70

I'm installing 71-72 Spindles on my '69 swb.
I'd like to run the original cross link and inner tie rods,... but know I need to swap to the 71-72 outer tie rods.
Here's my question. Are the 71-72 outer tie rods the same diameter as the 73-87 outers?
This conversion sleeve is offered by Performance On Line. (part# HPAS6370)

Can I use these with my 71-72 outers? Or will 73-87 outers work in a 71-72 spindle?

Re: Conversion tie rod sleeve for DISC brakes on a 67-70,...

The adjusting sleeves for a 1971-72 is the same as the sleeve for a 73-87 (the tie rods are different but have the same threads).

The 73 up outers will not fit the 71-72 spindle arm. I think the taper or maybe the thread length is different, can't remember off the top of my head. I used 73 up drop spindles on my truck because they were cheaper for some reason...

I double checked this on Autozones website.

Re: Conversion tie rod sleeve for DISC brakes on a 67-70,...

Have you bought the adapters yet? If not I can probably save you some money... I know these can be bought at most places for about $49 but this place builds race car stuff and makes those adapters for $14 each.

Just call and talk to Randy. Make sure to tell him the 11/16-18 is RH (right hand) and the 5/8-18 is left hand. The length for these trucks is 5-1/4"

One thing no one tells you is you have to use the 65-70 OUTER as the INNER or you will end up with 2 ends that have RH threads (they won't adjust that way!)

Wow,... I'm 22 minutes too late. (my luck)
I already have them coming.

Good info for everyone else though.

Re: Conversion tie rod sleeve for DISC brakes on a 67-70,...

Update:
I went to install the adapter sleeves today from POL.
I'm using 71-72 drop spindles on my 69 disc brake swap.
I purchased 71-72 outer tie rods and 69 inner tie rods.
Heres the problem.
71-72 outers are RH thread.
69 inners are ALSO RH thread.
So I guess I have to purchase 69 outers and use them as inner tie rods so the will be LH thread and adjust properly.
I wish POL would have had this info on their website. NOT a big deal,... just a waste of money and a set back on todays progress.

73-87 outers are the same thread size as 71-72 outers.
I checked my old tie rod ends to confirm that I needed to do this.

I believe the 69 is 5/8" diameter and the 71-72 is 11/16" diameter. I'm also using 71-72 McGaughy's drop spindles on my 69.

Mine is also a non-power steering, 6-cylinder truck.

so is each end tapped accordingly ( 5/8 1 end and 11/16 on the other ??)

YES.
The 11/16" end is RH thread,... and the 5/8" end is LH thread.

They also sell "stock replacement" sleeves, if you just want the "looks" of these sleeves.

Re: Conversion tie rod sleeve for DISC brakes on a 67-70,...

Glad I caught this post as I'm swapping '93 LD 3/4T spindles onto my '68 C10. Started checking all ends for both years & discovered the '68 has one LH & one RH thread outer in the 5/8". The '93 donor has 11/16" RH on both.

Looks like I'll be swapping Inner & Outer on one side before I can complete this deal.

Raggedjim,
Thanks for the info on the cheaper sleeves. Hope I can get them sent out tomorrow to wrap this up & start driving her soon.

Re: Conversion tie rod sleeve for DISC brakes on a 67-70,...

I just put 73 spindles on mine Another difference is that the 73 outer tie rod is longer . I had to shorten the outer 3/4 of an inch to be able to get the tie rods to shorten up enough to get the toe back into alignment Tim
