'64 GMC Carryall

Hey guys,
After the demise of my crewcab project, I picked up a 1964 GMC Carryall. Plan is to take all of the components from the crew, swap everything in that I can, and get it driving by the end of Summer. Dropmember is swapped in, and now I'm looking for a rear setup that will lay frame with minimal interior intrusion. I do realize that there will be a giant notch in the middle of the rear area, but I'm trying to keep the floor height at a minimum in front of that. I checked with Quality Air Ride to see if their kit wishbone super lift setup would work, but they have stopped making it. I talked to Porterbuilt, he makes awesome stuff, and just cant spend that much at the moment. Anyone here done a two link on the outside of the frame? Or anybody have any suggestions I might have overlooked?

Thanks!

Re: '64 GMC Carryall

It's kind of rusty, pretty rough, but has character. Character costs lots of money to enhance.

That's gonna be sweet! Check out KP Components, they may have a rear set-up you could use.

Re: '64 GMC Carryall

Prerunner,

Sorry to hear about the crewcab! Cool burban though! I say leave the rust and run that b!-ch! You should buy a Porterbuilt weld in notch. And home made 2 link out of 2x2 with the bags on the out side of the frame with a trac bar. That should be under $500.00 keep it going and the pics coming!

Re: '64 GMC Carryall

A few more pics, got the engine and tranny in, had to cut a recess in the firewall to make it fit. Its weird since I had no clearance issues with my '63, but the engine seemed like it was recessed back further this time. Oh well, it should not be all that obvious once its complete!

Rear trailing arm setup coming from Porterbuilt, and body's coming off the frame. This is quickly becoming more of a project then I wanted, but oh well! Doing it once and doing it right!

I think I'm going to take all the plywood out, and build a steel floor. I will be saving the sliding rails if it can get them out. Going to stop by the metal yard today and see if they have anything in 3/4" box tube.

Re: '64 GMC Carryall

Got my notches in today! A big thank you to Nate from Porterbuilt for giving fantastic customer service, and for making himself available when I have a tech question. The quality of his products is top notch, and it's nice to find someone who genuinely cares for their customers after the sale.

Anyway, here's a few pictures taken after install.

By the way, the notches are taller than they need to be, but I'll save the extra room for something later.

I also can not begin to express the great level of customer service from Porterbuilt. Any time I have ran into a snag or have a question, Nate is always there to steer me in the right direction.
