Ok, need some 4x4 info

Educate me, please! I'm looking at a '72 4x4 which the owner claims is a 1-ton truck. Now, I may be mistaken, but I thought 67-72s were never offered in K30 format. It doesn't appear, though, that the truck is a Napco conversion, so I'm wondering if it's just a K20 after all.

So, my question is: ami right? WEre 1-ton 4x4s not produced by the factory 67-72?

You are correct. A 1 ton would have been a napco. Nice looking truck though. WES

Probably a factory K20. Some folks think 1-Ton when they see floating rear axles with eight-lugs.

Can you get the VIN and decode it?

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like I won't be buying it, I received an interesting email to some questions about the truck:

It is titled, registered in WV as a 72 Cheyenne 2WD (the original truck body I started with)
· Cab is a 71 Custom, (If I remember right, so the sticker is not even close)
· Can’t remember which truck(s) I used the doors from
· The fenders and bed is from a 70 truck.
· Fenders from another 72 truck, and the grille
· Bumpers were bought new aftermarket
· Frame is a 1 ton (has the longer springs than the ¾ ton) form a 67.5 truck (when they started this body style)
· I swapped out the front rear so I could have disc brakes. I have never taken the time to replace the pinion so it is mismatched with the rear. The front rear is a DANA 44 with 4:11 gears (I am guessing)
· The rear, rear is a Heavy old style corporate with 4:56 gears, I am guessing
· The motor was built by a local professional….it was built as a 400 HP SB(350 CID built for 8000+ RPM), but I would say it is probably closer to 350HP, but ran VERY strong before it sat so long. Still runs pretty darn good and starts every time. Likely culprit is the carburetor sitting so long; I put a brand new distributor and electric fuel pump in it last year and never got around to the carburetor
· It has shorty headers but only a 2” dual exhaust. I think the exhaust may be restricting the backpressure a little too much and that could be hindering the engine performance, like I said, it runs good, but it is not 100% tuned.

Ummm...4.56 rear and 4.11 front does not sound like a recipe for success...at least not for $7500...

Therre is no way that is a one ton... not even a one ton converted to 4X4... it MAY be a K/20 with upgraded one ton suspention, but it was not built as a one ton at all.
The VIN will start off (assuming V8) CKE242xxxxxxx if a 3/4 ton

Sounds like a lot of mismatched parts just thrown together. I would pass too...

cam man responded while I was typing (was typing slow with a 12 month old in my lap... he loves playing with the keys on the lap top)
I wonder where he got some of his info, becouse the 67 one ton frame would have a 133 inch wheelbase, and that bed would be 6 inches too short.
