drip rail question
I was wondering what the best caulking is to use on the drip rail. What have you guys used, and what works best as far as sealing out water?

I have actually used jb weld once. There was some rust through, and i couldn't get in it to weld and grind so i cleaned it out and put some jb weld on with my finger. When it was painted you couldn't tell.

I use JB Weld for everything so I’m a firm believer in that approach, if it’s what you need. Post #3 on this thread shows how I did my rain gutters:

The local body shop uses some brand of seam sealer.

Are you guys actually filling in the drip rail or just sealing it?
Did these ever have a drain hole somewhere in it? Mine doesnt.

My 66 has four small slots for draines. Two on each side. One at the rear and one towards the front right before it curves around to the windshield.

I whittled a paint stick to put into the drain holes, then removed them after the seam sealer set up to keep the drain holes open. Worked fine.

I used Fusor Self Leveling seam sealer on my '65 resto project. Its an epoxy so no shrinking and cracking later on. Its sandable if you need to touch up a spot. Let it cure, scuff the sealer with a grey 3M pad, and shoot your paint on top.

There were two factory pinch holes toward the back of the rail, where it tend to angle upward. I had the guys close mine and the painted ran seam sealer all arouns the bottom where the roof panel meets the top of the cab. Since th etruck will be 90% show and 10% crisue she probaly won't see much rain. LIke many, I'll keep a few towels and pat her down before and after the rain.

I did a google search, a SEM brand dual mix applicatioin gun cost around $60 bucks. The pnuematic guns run around $300.

I also used the 3M self leveling seal sealer. THe paint supply place lent me the double barrell caulking gun for a $40 refundable deposit. Call around, no reason a place can't lend it to you for a few days.

So the SEM gun will work with the Fusor cartridges? The SEM gun says it is for 7oz cartridges, and the Fusor cartridges I find online are 10.1oz.

With a MIG welder & some time a regular cheap caulking gun can be converted to pump most all of these seam sealers-most are proprietary-you must use this gun w/this brand sealer-but if you're poor(like me) & cannot borrow one, it can be done fairly easily.
Most guys cut off the end of the caulk gun & weld on a double barrel setup, sized to the sealer tubes-I've seen old 3/8 drive sockets used, flat washers, you name it |

I just checked the pneumatic gun we have at the shop, and its a Cox brand. It know it works with fusor cartridges but at the moment I don't have any SEM cartridges to check and see if they'll work. I think the difference in the SEM and Fusor tubes are the length?
