Barn Find - Original 1966 Suburban (Picture Heavy)

OK I had to share this one. I just found and bought a rare find - a 1966 Chevy Suburban, all original and extremely well preserved. The history of this 'burb was that it spent most of it's life in either a barn or a garage. And it shows!

Only 91,325 original miles. After re-doing the drum brakes and freshening up a few things, she drives just like she did 45 years ago. Zero slop in the steering, and does surprisingly well with no power steering or brakes. As with any vehicle this old, it's not "perfect" but in outstanding condition considering it's age.

Re: Barn Find - Original 1966 Suburban (Picture Heavy)

I don't know yet, I have other projects lined up so I don't know when I can give it proper attention. Thought about restoring it, thought about garaging it for another 40 years after other projects are done (ok maybe not THAT long) and throwing around the idea of selling it to fund other projects. My wife LOVES it though and not so keen on getting rid of it.

If I keep it, this is one of those that I'd have a hard time doing anything custom to it. Something to be said for all original, never been touched time capsules like this...

Huge Score!!! I am in the process of bringing my panel back to that shape.
I can send you pics of my problem areas and you will think you have a new truck. Unmolested is so rare. Congrats!!!!!

Re: Barn Find - Original 1966 Suburban (Picture Heavy)

Wow, what a killer score !!!

With THREE WHOLE PICS of problem areas .... Love it !!

I would be hard pressed to doing anything to it as well ...

When it needs tires, mabey a stock size thin white wall tire would be cool...

Time Capsule for sure

Re: Barn Find - Original 1966 Suburban (Picture Heavy)

Yep, you scored! Definitely a worthwhile truck! It's really nice to see a burb that has not been hashed up over the years. Maybe just paint the bumpers and grill/surround back to what they were before the overall spray job, and enjoy. Got any idea if the original mats are under the carpets?
Have Fun!
