67-71 vs 72 Doors

From what I understand, there was a change made to the 72 doors. Is that correct? How would I tell if all I'm looking at are the doors?

TIA
Mike

Re: 67-71 vs 72 Doors

There is a reinforecement screw just below the vent windows, on the inside.

Re: 67-71 vs 72 Doors

So there wouldn't be any fitting issues in case that's all I can find? Thanks all for the quick responses!

It's a catastrophic success.

Re: 67-71 vs 72 Doors

Window crank shafts are longer due to the thicker inner door panels.

Sneaky is correct, I found this out the hard way, its something that gets overlooked or simply not realized.

One day when I get to do my "forever in the pipeline" frame off, I plan on swapping for the later doors, it's a pain how the outer skin has pulled away from the inner on mine, looks ugly, but on a more practical note the outer window seal doesn't even touch the window. This was a much needed improvment to stop that flexing between the inner & outer skins.

Re: 67-71 vs 72 Doors

Thanks all for the replies!!!

I found me a door that I'm hoping is still available this Saturday so I can go pick it up. It is a 72, but I'm okay with the differences mentioned

Thanks again.

Re: 67-71 vs 72 Doors

If you need to go with earlier door panels and do not want them to stick out, simply change the window regulator to a 67-71. The crank is shorter and will correct the problem. You would need to drill holes to attach the older panels, as the 72's attached with plastic clips.

Eightbanger is correct, the reinforcement screw keeps the glass sandwiched in the door frame, making for a much better seal than previous years.
