WIW - Tailgate Band
What's my tailgate band worth? I've never seen one like it. IT has NO dents, NO scratches, it is PERFECT. Like a NOS part.

Re: WIW - Tailgate Band
Are you considering selling it or just asking? That appears to be the same band that came on the 88+ trucks. I can tell you what its going to be worth if you try to remove it. It will be worth a big fat 000.00 as they are glued on very good.

Re: WIW - Tailgate Band
Is there any way to remove it without destroying it in the process? Soak it with oven cleaner? Heatgun? Anything?

Re: WIW - Tailgate Band
It will curl up in a ball as you remove it. I've peeled 1000's of them off, they are trash when removed, no real way to avoid it.

Re: WIW - Tailgate Band
They are still available from GM. Part # 15569393 list is $357.45. As I said, I peeled 1000's off over the years, the tailgate looks better smooth, in my opinion. I'd always let the customer know I'd peel it off for free, but it would be trash and to replace it would be in the $400 range with labor. Catch it on a hot day, get one corner started and away from the metal a little, grab on with pliers or vice grips and pull your heart out. It is solid double back tape on the back side, not just little strips, and the band is thin aluminum (or some sort of metal) so there is just no way to get it off without severely distorting it.

Re: WIW - Tailgate Band
You'd never be able to 'clean and retape' the thing though. We used to get some off every now and then that would almost lay back down with force. We had a wall we would screw them in to. Had about two rows of them, probably 30 or so. I would use them as examples for people as to why they could not be saved or reused. Really worked well for insurance adjusters who just didn't know.

Re: WIW - Tailgate Band
Bummer too... it's seems like after the 80's early 90's when they abolished the square body style, GM seemed to skimp on the outside trim, going for the chrome plated plastic grilles, and no cab trims, just the little 'Silverado' square tag on the GMT400 trucks.
The tailgate band too, the one's you all are talking about are just thin sheets of sticky tape. Although, I still can't get over the $600 price tag on the older style tail-gate bands..
