Sadly this am in a city school auto shop there was an explosion
reports are an 18 year old was killed,4-5 injured
somebody came on the noon news saying it was a 45 gallon drum of
Peppermint Oil
but nobody knows what it's for
and stored in a school auto shop

OMG now he was resuscitated with a pulse

Re: Peppermint Oil

Yes, sounds like he was making a barrel smoker. I hope his peers look at that horrible event as a learning experience on shop safety.

Re: Peppermint Oil

People tend to think of peppermint as a flavor, but in its undiluted state, it has a high alcohol content. Torch + confined alcohol = BOOM!

Re: Peppermint Oil

Peppermint oil is very expensive if it is pure. It is most commonly used to keep mice out of you house or shop.

Re: Peppermint Oil

It is a sad story to hear
At first the boy had passed ,then he was revived on route, but his injuries were to bad
others were badly injured as well,
when it broke with a live broadcast,no one seemed to know what or how it is used
i googled it and came up with shop stuff and some poisions
wondered if it could be something new body or shop related I'd never heard of
then some talk on the radio of it containing ethonal?
then it came out they were making smokers and the drums may have contained it

Re: Peppermint Oil

Sux the kid died, but common sense says you make sure a barrel is purged before you cut on it.

The article sure seems like they are on a witch-hunt to blame the folks who used the peppermint oil and then sold the empty barrel.
