Help needed on replacing the Shifter knob on a 1982 C10 Manual 3speed.
Trying to replace the shifter knob on my 1982 chevy c10 custom deluxe shortbed.
Can't seem to screw it off, and it doesn't have a staple or screw that I can find, will I need to replace the whole arm? Or is there something I am not finding/doing correctly? |

Forgot to add, it's a 3spd manual on the column.

Is there a nut on the underside of the shifter knob?

No, it is a solid rubber stopper/handle that is on the arm. It looks like it can screw off, but I have had no luck, I can add pics tomorrow.

I couldn't get the handle of my 3ott shifter handle either...I switched to a floor shift so i didn't need to get it off, but that sucker is on there tight.

Typically they just sorta twist off like there threaded on kinda the same way the knobs on automatic shifters on the column do.Not sure why it wont come loose maybe the prior owner put some some loctite type stuff on there to prevent it from coming off while driving.

Im curious where did you find a floor shifter at to do this sort of conversion at?im switching my truck to an automatic and will be putting the 3 spd in a different truck and want to make it a floor shift instead of the column shift. Not having any luck up to this point finding a floor shifter for a 3 spd.

Figure it out, Unfortunately I had to cut off the leather shifter, and there was a plastic knob glued onto the arm. Broke that off and attached my 8ball. Wasn't easy, and it is not as secure as the other knob is, but it looks good.

I used a dremmel cut-off wheel and sliced mine long ways. With the cut, it relieved the pressure and came off pretty easy. I put a stock one back on, but yours sounds like a neat one. Post some pictures of it on.

I never had any problems getting them off either but I had a similar idea about the knob but I used an old 4 speed knob without embossed numbers and painted it I cut the shifter down to where the knob was just above the steering wheel now with the smaller steering wheel it has the knob is where it looks like it belongs
will get a pic when I have a chance
