Re: side motor mounts
I don't know about the "really good" part but I have used the universal mounts that several vendors sell with good results on a few pickups in the past. Like this
http://www.speedwaymotors.com/S-B-B-...ount,3273.html Something like this one http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Chevy-...unts,8473.html would work pretty well and be a bolt in although if I was doing it I would put some gussets on the brackets that bolt to the frame. If you can weld and fabricate pretty well you could make your own like the last one I showed and use a pair of Ford style biscuits http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Univer...-Kit,1199.html to mount them. All of the links I posted are for example only and not a suggestion that you buy from them although they usually give good service. Welders Series also has some nifty weld it yourself mount kits that might be more in line with what you are looking for but they do have to be welded up an fitted to the truck http://www.welderseries.com/blog/onl...its/chevrolet/ They have lots of nifty brackets and other cut metal pieces that are handy when building a custom truck too. Re: side motor mounts
I'd recommend using something like this crossmember than any solution that involves any type of cantilever type thing hanging off the frame rail. The concentrated loads generated by hanging a 600 lb engine off a lever arm and hitting bumps and chuckholes can crack the frame, as it did mine and a couple other I've seen.
