Re: dog dish hub caps
The combo would look good. I once bought a set of those, from a Blazer, for $30; and sold them for $60. Wonder what they'd bring, now.

Re: dog dish hub caps
I have four of the caps....they'd be good for a driver. Not perfect, but not bad.

Re: dog dish hub caps
Those are just two from a set I bought last year at a swap meet, then sandblasted, and had powder coated. They're out there. I also have a set of 5-lug,which are harder to find since they are 2wd-only (all being saved for future/present projects). Just keep your eyes open and get to know the look. I spot the wider wheels from a mile away. I've seen them on junkers, trailers, laying around with weeds growing out of them...and offer money or to trade other wheels for them. I get 8-luggers a lot that way. Heck,I've offered to trade brand new white spokes for crusty looking ones mounted on old trucks, then run out and buy them once the person agrees. I've traded old aluminum wheels, like Outlaws, for them. To me these wheels are worth more than any custom wheels. Some just scrap then and some would rather have dime a dozen aluminum wheels that have lost their polish.

I think that it's pretty cool that you just can't go out and buy them new. It makes the "look" a little harder to achieve, and definitely true old school in that you're using components from other types of vehicles to improve yours. The problem once you find your wheels is you will instantly become a hubcapaholic. So far there is no known cure for this addiction. You will never stop craving them. Ever. I've managed to keep this in check by trying to focus on multiple lesser addictions, but I still have constant urges. When I go on vacation I usually can't help myself, and I'll end up in some strange junkyard somewhere looking for the "one" that will complete a set when I could be relaxing at the beach, fishing, or some other form of recreation. Don't let this happen to you! Here's a few of mine.

Re: dog dish hub caps
It's true. About any cap will fit,so you don't have to commit. You can switch them around on a whim. So,the more the better, right? I have some '67 GMC caps for my '67 project. But,also have the 69-72s I bought because the 67/68s were hard to find. I also got a set of '68 Pontiac dog dishes and would love to find other Pontiac,Buick,Olds caps. I have a thing about,Since it's a GMC,not running Chevy caps. That's too easy! It's actually more like I want to caps from brands where a GMC would have been sold.
