I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but....

RPO codes get reused. So - in order for this to be helpful, we have to know what timeframe they snapped the chalk line.

For example, I immediately did a search for a couple familiar RPOs:

LS6 - which is previously a famous 454 engine RPO (as shown) but is more recently a GENIII small block RPO (one of the famous "LS" motors - not shown).

How 'bout another: My Chevelle, a '74, was built with the RPO LS4 454 cu inch engine (235 HP). However, if it was built in '73 it would have come with the RPO LS5 454 cu in engine with 245 HP. When I look at this chart, it shows some kind of weenie 4 cylinder engine, which is not what I was looking for. AND - how come it shows both the LS4 and LS6 as expected, but has this 4 cylinder LS5 engine wedged in between (obviously from a different timeframe)? Why is the LS1 shown as a GENIII engine but not the LS6?

Those two quick checks make the whole list suspect in my mind. They are fun to look at but definitely not all encompassing.

Well I checked ever RPO off my 87 GMC and everyone came up with a correct option.
