Re: Power steering belt adjustment?

when hunched over the driverside fender look at the power steering pump you will see a bolt sticking out that is on a slide kinda like the altenator bracket, once you loosen it it should slide towards the harmonic balancer, and then whalaa!

If you are going to replace the belt anyway....just cut the damn thing off, then adjust the bracket without the tension on it while fitting the new belt..

Yeah, thats what I was thinking.I just don't like to get whipped by a bracket.

Thanks!

Re: Power steering belt adjustment?

would make sure everything is loose before i go cuttin' only because it would make a nice spare.

Re: Power steering belt adjustment?

I had to loosen the lower bolt to get enough travel on the pump to remove/replace the belt. The lower pivot bolt is actually two bolt/studs and you have to loosen both to get enough travel.

Don't forget the nut on the backside near the pressure line fitting.

Re: Power steering belt adjustment?

I typically try to avoid cutting or breaking old parts out for a couple reasons:
1) The old part often makes a good emergency spare.
2) If removing something requires breaking it, then how are you going to get the new one installed? If it's possible to remove the old one without breaking it, then the new one will go in.
