Transmission cover bolt size
I need to refit the plastic cover that goes over the bottom of the flex plate/torque convertor and as its been off for a while the bolts ahve been eaten by a gremlin. What size bolts do I need? I have to search around as non metric bolts are not so easy to get here so I have to go to a specialist engineering suppliers and need to be able to say I need x number of y by z UNC bolts or whatever they are. Also what size bolt goes into the tapped holes in the end of a sbc head? I need to bolt up the back of the engine loom and have a hole but no bolt.

Well, I checked my heads and all of the holes are 3/8-16 thread. I would think that a 3/8-16 x 3/4" long bolt would be fine for the brackets... LockDoc

My cover is metal. I know that plastic was used on newer trucks, so maybe your cover is not the same as your truck had when new. Doesn't matter, though. You still want to bolt it up and you need bolts. I get it.

Yeah its a bit of a bitsa, not surprising I guess as not only is it 44 years old, its gone from a six to a V8 at some point and is living a few thousand miles away from its parents so I'm not surprised its got a few odd bits! I've spent a fair bit of time un-bodging previous owners bodges like the wobbly power steering pump and misaligned pulleys.
Lockdoc, thanks for that great information. I'll get down to the engineering suppliers and pick up some bolts.
