rear axle shaft swap from 6 to 5 lug?'s

Hey everyone i have a quick question. How hard is it to find 5 lug axle shafts for my '68 C-10 2wd. Can they be swapped from a newer model year i.e '73 or newer. Wanting to go with front disc setup, but cannot decide what to buy. Thanks again!!

Re: rear axle shaft swap from 6 to 5 lug?'s

5 lug rear ends are wider than the 6 lugs. I believe it's because of the offset of disk brakes on the front vs the original front drums. As said you can buy aftermarket axles that allow you to make your axle a 5 lug.

Or you can get a 5 lug axle out of a 71-72 that has the same rear suspension as your truck (assuming it's truck arm since it's a chevy c10).

Or you can get the entire axle out a a 73-87 and weld trailing arm perches to them (perches available for cheap on the aftermarket). This option leaves you without the mount for the panhard but if you're going to lower it you can use the panhard re-locator.
