Upper Ball Joints
I'm replacing my balljoints. Do I install the bolts for the upper ones with the nuts facing up, or down? Or does it matter?
Thanks!

Re: Upper Ball Joints
I don't think it really makes any difference, but how they're assembled at the factory is based on what is easiest for the man on the assembly line....and defined by some engineers who did a time study for efficiency.
Since it is in your control, you can do it however you want to do it. Me, I'm just gonna stick the bolts in the top (cleaner look) and put the nuts on the bottom. Nuts usually hang lower......

Re: Upper Ball Joints
Nuts go on top. Otherwise the threaded end of the bolt can gouge the rubber boot when the ball joint is greased and the boot bulges out. That's from Moog's instructions in the box.

Re: Upper Ball Joints
nuts on top i have seen where people have put nuts on bottom and the bolts are to long and rub on the steering knuckle and this can cause binding and sometimes failure of bolts

Re: Upper Ball Joints
Yep I found a few threads when I replaced mine a few months back, and all had the same verdict, nuts on top, and that's what the instructions said.

Re: Upper Ball Joints
Well, I'm glad you guys told us how to do it. I'm sure I would have seen it in my instructions (Moog), but I showed y'all that I didn't know the right way. Now, I do. THANKS!!!!
