Carburators
I hav e a 69 GMC with a 396. Who has used which carb with luck. Im on my 4th rebuilt carb and Every one is junk! Holley does a rebuilt quadrajet which I tend to think would be better than anything else. I don't want square bore. I just want a efficent working carb. It's not a race truck. Has a Torque type cam and domed forged pistons. Not sure of compression. Stock manifold and 112 cc heads if that helps. Any info?

I've had good luck with Q jets built by Jet. I'd had a couple of them (one on a Pontiac 455 and the other on a 350 Chevy) and they have both been great. A friend of mine recently bought one of the rebuilt Q-jets that Summit sells and that thing is awesome too. He's got it on a 350HP 396 in a Chevelle, and it is crisp, cranks easy hot or cold, and pulls strong all the way to the redline. I'll probably try the Summit Q-jet next time I need one because it a bit cheaper than the Jet.

I've purchased rebuilt q-jets from Sean Murphy Induction in CA, that look and perform great. SMI, can apply the correct finish to outside of the carb, making it look new again and match it to your engine specs.

im a CARTER AFB/EDELBROCK carb guy myself.... used to love holleys till i tried the CARTER AFB..... 15* days at him in rainsylvania and it alwaysl fired right off and ran perfect w/ the carter....
as for quadrajunks ive been told by old hot rod guys more than enough times that either they work perfect or they are junk. there is no in-between.... good luck in your search... |

The last one I bought looked like a jewel on the outside. New plating etc. Leaks at the air horn, leaks from accel pump, and wont idle right. Took it apart and it was junk inside! The guy made it look beautiful on outside and didnt do anything but throw in a new needle and seat inside! Corrosion etc in fuel bowl

In 1992 I had my Q-jet rebuilt at the Carburetor Shop in Ontario. They did a great job for me, and it's still working well. They are now called the Carb Shop http://www.customcarbs.com/ and are more-or-less in your area. Maybe they can help you.

I prefer the qjet, although twice I have bought classics that already had edelbrocs that performed very well and I didnt have to work on them as much as my qjets. The edel is pretty simple and convenient to work on but the fuel economy difference between them and my quadrajets on similar vehicles make tinkerin with the qjet worth it. I was sold on the edelbrock for a short period. I cant figure out where the extra fuel goes with the edel they didnt make extra power or run rich. Bty I bought from jet performance and can thank them for any knowledge I have of qjets, had to take mine apart quite a few times to get things working correctly and tuned correctly. Luckily there are people like cliff from cliffs high performance to send me good parts and over the phone make my carb run better than jet can.
