Re: School me on power steering please???

What pump and brackets will be determined by what style of water pump you are running on the engine....short or long. Also it is helpful to know what style of fittings the steering box has. The '69-'70/'80 boxes had SAE inverted flare fittings. From '80/'81-'87 they used a metric size with an O-ring. That makes fitting hoses easier if you have the pump and box with the same style of fittings.

Re: School me on power steering please???

Your engine has the long water pump and your steering box is an early one with the inverted flare style fittings.

Re: School me on power steering please???

Here is CaptainFabs bracket right after I installed it.

I wish other manufacturers had such good instructions and parts that fit this well!

Re: School me on power steering please???

thanks captain for the info on the lines! do you have any suggestions on the right brackets and pump i should be running? i see there is other power steering threads but start getting mixed up on what to actually use after looking and reading all of them......just wondering if you know exactly what i should run with the long water pump and flare style gear box?

Re: School me on power steering please???

You will want a pump, brackets and lines from a '73-'79 pickup with a small block. There are a couple of variations with the long pumps. Mainly whether or not the PS pump boss on the water pump is threaded or a smooth bore. If you get a setup and have issues, post up and we can guide you thru it.
