Gauge paint

So I finally have all the gauges I want to use in my cluster but a couple are faded and don't match... I was thinking fluorescent orange model paint for the needles but what about the whitish green markings on the gauge itself? Anybody want to give up their secret paint code or any tricks to help out? thanks!

Re: Gauge paint

Search the site for "gauge restoration" there are several good threads. Here is one that I saved that TCB-1 did:

Started Another Gauge Restoration

Sadly, the pictures are gone, but the data is still there. He states on that thread "gauge paint: Plastikote "orange glow" (in small spray can from Wal Mart)duplicates the needle color almost exactly. a great way to liven up those sunfaded gauges!"

Re: Gauge paint

Also check out Bruce88's It's Just a Pickup Thread -- the page linked has his explanation of what he did for his guages. Bruce88's write-ups are excellent.

Re: Gauge paint

They make vinyl overlays for the gauges but I don't know of any paint that is made for them....or for that matter a stencil that would let you paint them uniformly...

Re: Gauge paint

Thanks guys. I was really interested in the actual face of the gauges but sounds like that's not gonna happen so I'll see what I can do about finding some sort of overlays or something but I really don't want a white faced gauge. I prefer the stock black/off white look so I'll see if I can find something along those lines.

One of the threads that I posted I think has a LINK to overlay for Guages that can be purchased.

Re: Gauge paint

Whitegauges.net sells black overlay gauges with white lettering or a light green like factory (if you ask them for it)
