bull s#@t or not
Just had a zz4 installed and stock gauge says it's running at 220 degrees. The shop that installed it says that it's because of the new sending unit on old old gauge. That sound right to anyone else?

Doesnt sound right to me.
Did the gauge work fine before the engine swap? What sending unit did they put in? Is 220 the highest it reaches, or is it sitting on 220 all the time. What thermostat did they put in there, 180 is stock for a zz4.

gauge worked fine before. Only got up to about 200. Engine would get to 220 in traffic though. Now it just goes straight to 220 and doesnt get any hotter even in traffic. Dealership said 195 is what it came with but that sounds pretty high.

195 is stock for most 350's, but alot of guns run 180's. I ran a search on msn.com and found on www.gmgoodwrench.com that zz4 has a 180. So I really dont know whats right for sure. A few guys on here have zz4's and they should be able to tell you for sure. So its not getting any hotter then 220?
Other then this how is the engine, do you like it? I hear good things about them. Hows the power? What did you have before?

Thanks for the help. Only have about 600 miles on it, but they have been pretty fun. Decent amount of power, and it sounds awesome!! I had a stock 350 with a set of sportmsn II heads before. Seems like zz4 has a bit more power but runs way smoother.

Your having the same problem I did. You need a diff sending unit to make the gauge work right. Mine does exactly that.

I agree with the new sending unit. Sounds like whatever sending unit that you have now, isn't working correctly with whatever type gauge you're using. I've had similar problems with other vehicles in the past.

Yep, I'd say it's the sending unit. Replace the sending unit with the one you had in your old 350.

Ditto with everyone else on sening unit. I also have a ZZ4 and mine runs 180-200 (in traffic). I can email you a conversion you can do on the HEI to wake it up. Ignitionman from another board sent me it and I was really happy with the change.
