Re: New tires & wheels!
Very nice looking '63 short wide. Good job finding a nice set of aluminum slots too.

"love it, are the new ones the SS wheels?"
The wheels are 6-bolt, 15"x7" 1970's vintage aluminum slots by a company named "Modern", that I picked up at the Fall Carlisle swap meet a few years ago for $100.00. They were / are in great shape and only needed polishing......a LOT of plolishing! I don't recall hearing the "Modern" name back then, but as I remember, there were quite a few different companies selling them in their heyday. Thanks for the positive comments. |

Re: New tires & wheels!
Yep, looks great! I'm a little partial to the aluminum slot wheels.

Re: New tires & wheels!
Very nice improvment! I remember when Aluminum slotted wheels were practically on every hot rod in the late sixties and early seventies. We used to call them Ansens.

Re: New tires & wheels!
Your front license plate looks better in second picture too! I don't understand why some guys mount them from the top holes so they hang down.

Re: New tires & wheels!
Nice change!
Have to get the rest of the trim on the cab corners and the bed. It'll all tie together! Very nice truck!

Thanks for the compliments! The "trim" on the side is just some 'chessey' stick-on plastic crap from PepBoys or J.C.Whiney or somewhere. It was on the truck when I got it and I've been leery of trying to get it off, because it might rip off some paint with it. Wish I could afford the real deal trim, but all my loose cash is presently going into a '36 3-window F**d I picked up recently. |

Re: New tires & wheels!
That type of wheel is still being made by American Racing Wheels people Ansen Sprint wheels are still what they are called.

Re: New tires & wheels!
What a fantastic improvement. The first set of wheels look like an afterthought. The new wheels look purposeful and period correct to the truck. I really like the stance too.
If you want to remove the stick on trim, you might try something as simple as Goo Gone. Stay out of bright sunlight so it doesn’t dry on the paint, and dribble it on a small section of the adhesive and let it soak for a while. It will release just about any kind of adhesive with a little patience and enthusiasm. If it doesn't do anything, quit. If it does release the adhesive, just move on to a bigger section. It might allow the trim to easily lift free, at which point you can just wash off the excess Goo Gone. |
