redoing a grille.
i got a grille today(for a 69) and was wondering what you have to do to get paint to stick where there was once black paint?....its in pretty good shape,a little dull....not sure what to do about that....but i tries to paint some through that middle part and the paint just kind of separates....it wont stay on there smooth....any body done this before?

I'd clean it up good with some wax remover. The reason the paint is wanting to separate is because it doesn't stick to wax very well. Then scuff it up with some steel wool or 1000 grit sandpaper so the paint has something to bond to.

They say that oven cleaner removes anodizing. Never tried it, but I need to redo my grill because of pitting and stuff.

Try wiping it with a little acetone or lacquer thinner.
