tilt column advice
Over the weekend I found an original tilt column for my 69 SWB. The lever and positions seemed tight but once the tilt is engaged, the whole section that tilts had about a 1/2" play up and down. Can this be fixed? I never opened one up before and hate to spend the money if its not repairable. pics would be great. The seller told me it needed to be tightened internally but i'm not sure on that. The gear selector and the housing it connects to looked good. thanks for the advice.

Re: tilt column advice
Sound like it needs to be taken apart! There are 4 screws that need to be tightened and to get to them the upper housing has to come off. I don't have any diagrams, but I have seen them posted here before. I have had many of these apart and if you've never worked on one they can be a little tricky! If you PM I can tell you more in detail

I spent around two weeks trying to rebuild my girlfriends tilt comlumn out of a 1991 chevy half ton. I got it apart after having to buy a few specialty tools necessary and tighten the four screws. I couldn't quite get it back together like it should and gave up after many many many tries of disassembly/re-assembly. I just ended up getting her a rebuilt one from columnsgalore.com Good luck, Keith |
