59 Apache door seals?

I need a good picture of the correct way to install the new door seals on my '59 truck. I bought the one peice seal from LMC that is cut so it is not one big loop. Are all the holes for the plastic tabs the same distance all the way around the door? Does it matter where I start? I have searched here and online but can't find any clear pictures to help.

Re: 59 Apache door seals?

The split is at the center bottom of the door. Make sure the holes in the door are deep enough for the plastic studs to go all the way in. You may have to trim the studs. If you bang them in and they don't go all the way in it can be a PIA to get them out with out damaging the door seal. You should also apply 3m weather strip adhesive after its all fitted properly.

Re: 59 Apache door seals?

Thanks for the info. Does anyone have a picture of the door seal installed so I can see the direction the seal lays?

Re: 59 Apache door seals?

Its so odd to me that they show a photo of the WRONG way to install the door weatherstripping but negelect to show you the RIGHT way! Plus, as helpful as that set of pictures is, they need to replace them with much higher resolution photos.

Re: 59 Apache door seals?

As a general rule of thumb I learned in psychology, humans tend to remember things the incorrect way better than the correct way. The example I remember is a picture of a man riding a horse vs. the horse riding the man! You'll remember the horse riding the man! (I know someone will make a funny out of this!) Kind of the same principle. However, I generally tend to do things incorrectly thus learn what not to do! lol Another however, glad you started this thread, my truck doesn't have the rubber seals either, so maybe I'll do it correctly the first time!

Re: 59 Apache door seals?

Just remember that the seal should stick up in the way
not stuck down smoothly in the corner.

Re: 59 Apache door seals?

Hah I guess mine was backwards as well. That might explain the wind noise.
The PO had placed vacuum line between the door and weather stripping to push it away from the door.

Yes they should not be up against the door frame.

The larger part goes against the cab. An Assembly manual has all this info in it and more.

Re: 59 Apache door seals?

It's from an assembly manual.
So it says the larger part does that mean the taller part?

Re: 59 Apache door seals?

Let us know how it is on the highway. Do the doors latch shut too snug now or not much difference? I might have to consider redoing my seals. Yup, I did mine wrong too. Only bothers me on the highway tho.

Re: 59 Apache door seals?

drove it to work last night and the wind noise is gone from the door,, door is snug and solid when shutting,,, don't have to slam it at all.. I'm real happy with how it turned out.
now to the other side.. thanks to justplainray for that very useful link!!!!

Waybad, you are waywelcome.

My door stripes were installed just like your originals.
And I had the same wind noise and gaps.
I'm in the middle of painting the truck right now.
Have installed new weather stripping everywhere, hope I get equally good results as you.

It has been a lllllooooooonnnnnnngggg haul, I got 300 man hours in the paint and body work.
And body was in good shape to start.
