Shaved Tailgate....Roll Pan Tail Light Ideas......
I'm looking for some opinions and ideas here. My 69 GMC has a shaved tailgate and roll pan, done by the previous owner. It currently has bullet style tail lights, but I want to ditch them for a different look since I am doing a frame off anyways. I want something that will look clean, mount flush or inset, and it has to have a reverse light.
Initially I was thinking of the Mini Deville tails offered by Custom Classic, as they should flow with the body lines when mounted horizontally. I recently decided I was going to go with billet side markers to keep the truck legal, and incidentally tripped across the billet tail lights from both Marquez and Fesler. Now I am thinking maybe a set of these mounted horizontally would look pretty cool and go with the billet rims and side markers pretty good. I'll post a picture of the truck as it is, the lights I am talking about, and a picture of a factory tail light bezel laid over the roll pan to illustrate the idea.

With those billet trim pieces, the original appearance is improved. Using those, lets you do away with the anodized OEM trim, and cleans up the rear.
I haven't seen any of these trucks with the OEM taillights eliminated and replaced with anything else that look good...to me. Tail lights in a roll pan just don't work for me...on these trucks. If it was a CK (88-98), then there are options...Cadillac, for instance. A stepside truck offers some options that are attactive, if you're looking to deviate from OEM.
