Interior Cab Help....what goes here?

Check where I've drawn the red arrows.....didn't even notice them until the cab was stripped. Factory bump-outs for.....coat hooks?
The cab is a 70 GMC Custom.
Thanks

Re: Interior Cab Help....what goes here?

Looks like the top holes for a set of gun wracks. They normally get pulled out by the screw.

Re: Interior Cab Help....what goes here?

My cab is stock as well non A/C if it matters and it also has the same holes in roughly the same area. I allways thought it was for a gun rack as well. Don't have any corresponding holes below the window either. Not sure how gun racks were installed. My dad had a set in an older toyata that he used all the time.

Re: Interior Cab Help....what goes here?

Taking my truck from the state of Wyoming it had the obligatory gun rack. Bringing it back to Minnesota - the state where nothing is allowed - it was useless to me so I took it out. My holes look just like that.

OK, now we're on to something. Does anyone else have the "Gun Rack" option.
Mines an A/C cab and my body man's is non A/C. Sure does look factory.

Re: Interior Cab Help....what goes here? Gun Rack?

I'm beginning to believe this is a factory setup for a gun rack. What else could it be? If it is, there must have been a factory or dealer installed gun rack option. I have never heard of this before. We need more input on this. If I'm going to fill the holes now is the time to do it. Or should I just get a gun rack.
BTW mine does not have any holes below the back glass.

Re: Interior Cab Help....what goes here?

I could be wrong here, but I beleive the gun racks mounted with top screws and the bottom was secured by slipping into the weather stripping of the window itself.

Guess it would take a picture of someone that currently has one installed to verify that fact.

Re: Interior Cab Help....what goes here?

I've searched some old threads and see that this question has been asked before.....but not really answered. Seems that dealers did install gun racks but my question is this....did the factory provide the bump out location or was this also done at the dealership?
The mystery continues....

nothing factory, no factory option for a gun rack, no bumps on the wall, no factory markings.

This is what I thought too...until I measured the spacing and location of my body man's 68. They are the exact same distance apart and the same distance up from the window lip. Also, the bumpouts are shaped the same and have the same size threaded holes. Might this be a result of a directive to the dealerships on how to install these gun racks? Seems almost impossible that someone drilled and tapped these holes 2 years apart and got them exactly the same. But, they could have done mine when it was new and his when it was 2 years old.
Being an Engineer I find all this very interesting.
I'm going to take a closer look at these tomorrow.

Mine has two horizontal holes on one side, and two vertical holes on the other. I always assumed they were factory.

Re: Interior Cab Help....what goes here?

My 68 has the holes as well, and had the gun rack which was mounted as mentioned above, screws in top slid int weatherstrip at bottom. You stated yours has a "bump and threaded holes" mine does not but simply drilled holes and sheet metal screws. Is the truck a lwb? Was it optioned as a custom camper or did the cab originate on a truck optioned as such? It could be a camper item ,but have never seen factory bumps and threaded holes in that location.

If I remember right, it was my 70 that had coat hooks there. I have no way of knowing if they were what was originally mounted there.
