Help, want to go from 3 on column to sm465 4 speed

I need to know what all needs to be changed in my 1971 chevy c10 with a 250 ,6cyl and saginaw or muncie 3 speed column shift to a sm465 granny 4 speed ? I really need a lower 1st gear in these tennessee hills when i,am hauling or towing when pulling out also a lower reverse. I have a floor shift column and the trans with shifter along with a floor shift trans cover. What else do i need ? All help is appreciated.

Alter the length of the driveline and change the end from a slip yoke to spline shaft. WES

Re: Help, want to go from 3 on column to sm465 4 speed

I had a '56 SWB Chevy. The guy I got if from had installed an SM420, in lieu of the 3-speed it came with. He couldn't afford to get the driveshaft work done. I had "connections", so I swapped my '55 210 2-dr sedan for it.

I had to get a bolt-in yoke for the transmission, and then have the driveshaft modified with a slip yoke since there wouldn't be any other place for the driveshaft to have that action. Anyway, I had the driveshaft modified and I got the u-joints that would allow the driveshaft to mate up with everything, then installed it.

So, I'm thinking that you have what you need except for the modified driveshaft. You may not need any mods to it, but without looking....I'd have no way of knowing.
