Volt Meter not working
Hey guys,
Pretty new to this stuff, I just got a 71 Cheyenne SWB, noticed the meter isn't working. Is the any wires that connect to the meter or is it ran by the printed circut board. |

Re: Volt Meter not working
The stock meter is an ammeter and usually the two small fuses go bad. They are located on each side of the radiator.
Most people hook up a after market voltmeter.

Re: Volt Meter not working
Yeah,
look for the small black fuse holders, they have small glass fuses in them, always go bad. Smitty

Re: Volt Meter not working
Welcome from Texas. What you see in the picture is correct there are no wires connected, yes it does use the printed circuit board. Check those fuses, even if they are good and all the other wiring is ok an amp meter wont move very much. If you have access to a DC volt meter check voltage across the battery terminals while the engine is running above idle speed you should see 14 volts. If you dont have access to a meter most auto shops and many parts stores will check for free
Good luck

Re: Volt Meter not working
Anyone know where to find the small fuses? I had to use standard length fuses and wrap electrical tape around them.

Re: Volt Meter not working
Thanks guys,
I looked for the fuses but no luck, there seems to be all new wiring in this truck. I have access to a to a volt meter and I will have to check that. Thanks again. |

Re: Volt Meter not working
Another thing you can check after you make sure the alternator is putting out at least 13.5 (or slightly more) vdc is the ground straps.
If you don't know where they go do a search on ground or ground straps. |

Re: Volt Meter not working
I think they are SFE4 fuses, and I got them at a local auto parts store (most carry them).
The fuse holders don't look anything like any I have seen before. They are black and look more bulb-like, about 3/4" round and made of rubber. They are right where the fender meets the radiator support.
