Re: small crack trans bell housing

What kind of transmission is that?
My aluminum Muncie M21 had that happen. The crack was a complete break, and I ended up pulling the transmission and getting the tab welded back on.

Re: small crack trans bell housing

yes you need bolts to the flywheel .....i was missing the ones when i put mine in, i just went to hardware store and got some short grade 8 bolts, there wasnt enough room to put a lockwasher on the bolts under the nuts cuz of the small dimples in torque converter where the tabs are, so i used some nylon lock nuts and a little lock-tight, dont worry the torque converter will need to slide back out of the trans a little to bolt up to flywheel. You might get away with running it with that crack since there should be 5 other bolts holding the trans to motor but would be ideal to have it fixed!

Re: small crack trans bell housing

thanks, thats what i thought it needed to be bolted to flywheel.its been a long time doing a major project.its the little things you forget. For now the trans bolts up fine, i will keep a eye on the crack.if it becomes a problem i will get it welded.
